THE CHALLENGE

This self-initiated project began as an exploration into how motion and materiality can coexist in poster design. I wanted to challenge the idea that posters are static communicators—reimagining them instead as layered, cinematic compositions that shift in meaning and perception depending on light, movement, and context.

THE APPROACH

Inspired by Godard’s use of text and texture in film, I used acetate sheets, fluid ink, and layered transparencies to echo motion in print. The process was intentionally hands-on and iterative. Each layout was composed physically, scanned, manipulated digitally, and then reprinted. Typography was treated not as a tool for clarity alone, but as a visual rhythm—cutting through space, dissolving into texture, and returning with impact.I incorporated recordings from urban environments—sonic textures of the city—into short motion sequences that mirrored the design’s layered structure. The result was a dialogue between sound, form, and image.

THE OUTCOME

The final pieces blur the lines between screen and surface. They live equally well as print artefacts and as animated sequences. This project not only deepened my interest in hybrid media approaches but also reaffirmed the value of slowing down the design process—working by hand, testing materials, and allowing space for intuition and accident.
