SHADOWPLAY
THE CHALLENGE
To reinterpret Joy Division’s legacy through a contemporary visual lens—capturing the band’s haunting lyricism and post-punk atmosphere in a motion-based narrative. This wasn’t a commission, but a personal exploration into how sound, type, and emotion can coexist on screen.

THE APPROACH

Using lyrics from “Shadowplay” as structural anchors, I layered analogue textures, archival footage, and custom kinetic typography to evoke the psychological depth of the track. Glitches, grain, and negative space became tools for visual tension, while each frame was composed with editorial sensibility and cinematic pacing.

THE OUTCOME
The result is a speculative reimagining of a music video that never was—immersive, melancholic, and rhythmically alive. It serves as both homage and experimentation: a testament to the power of motion design as a form of emotional storytelling.
